Built as gentleman’s townhouse in 1717 the Kings Head Hotel’s fine Georgian architecture blends with modern practicalities to give warm and comfortable surroundings and a relaxed ambience.

The rooms to the front of the hotel are typically large and many of the building’s Georgian features have been retained including the ballroom where Franz Liszt gave a piano recital in 1841.

An earlier guest was the artist J.M.W. Turner who described the hotel as “The finest in Richmondshire”.

Richmond itself with its wynds and streets offers many attractions including a Norman castle- an imposing sight above the banks of the river Swale- and the ruins of Easby Abbey.

The Georgian theatre royal is the oldest theatre in England in its original form where performances are regularly held. A museum is attached to the theatre.

Richmond has many beautiful walks including riverside, woodland and the remains of the Georgian racecourse.

Catterick racecourse and Croft Motor racing circuit are nearby and a further 7 racecourses are within an hour’s drive, of the Kings head making it a perfect base for leisure visits.
